Poetic Response Analysis

From the past to the present, I have seen many poems, including Chinese and English. Although I wrote poetry in high school, it is also a very simple poem. This time the poem is based on different forms, syntax, lexicon, and prosody, which makes me feel difficult. In any case, choosing a theme is the first thing I have to consider. Faced with four options, I chose to write about social issues, a place and a poem about identity or object.

Among them, what reminds me of my first is a topic that I was deeply impressed when I was in high school, deforestation. Deforestation is the social problem we are facing now because deforestation we have lost many forests and many animals have lost their homes. Before I started writing poetry, I searched for related articles. Highlight some sentences or words that I think are useful for writing this poem. And the purpose of my poem is to make people realize that deforestation is a serious impact on the environment, we should stop deforestation. In the second poem, I wrote a poem about my hometown. Hometown is a place that makes me miss, even though my hometown is not very beautiful. But since I was born, I have been living in my hometown for a long time. I experienced day, night, sunshine, wind and rain. I grew up, learned, and met my friends. My hometown is a place full of memories, so I wrote a poem about missing and praising my hometown with the title of “Hometown”. The third poem, I wrote about the woman in the fishing village. She fished in the morning. She lives in a fishing village and works hard to help families and stay away from poverty. In my mind, most of the former Chinese girls were born and raised in poor villages. Because of the ancient feudal ideology, many people are patriarchal. In the patriarchal society, men control women to stay at home and take care of families and children. Despite the development and change of society, women have power, but there are still the ideas of patriarchal in society.

For the better form of poetry, I tried to use anaphora in my poems. In the first poem, I have started my stanza with “In the forest”. I repeated “Hometown” in the second poem of the last stanza to express my feelings about my hometown. Also, repeated beginning with “Be” at the last few lines of the third poem to praise the greatness of women. To show rhymes, I also use the same sound at the end of the sentence, such as “beautiful” and “wonderful” in the first poem. Rhetoric is also a very important part of a poem, so I also used personification, simile, metaphor and other rhetorical methods to build meaning and made the poem more vivid. “There is a deer. He is a runner, but now he has a fear”(Green Ocean). I use personification as a rhetorical method to describe the deer so that I can better grasp the sympathy of the reader to achieve the purpose of my poem. “She is like a petrel, Float over the vast sea”(Girl in Fishing Village). I used the simile to describe the girl as a petrel in the early morning river, which seems to be dotted and floated on the river when flying. This is a more vivid description of the girl’s scene on the river.
